The Caribbean today took a significant step towards reshaping its global investment narrative with the official breakfast launch of the Caribbean Investment Forum (CIF) 2026 at the Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel in Barbados. Convening under the theme "Invest. Innovate. Accelerate.", the event was well attended both in-person and virtually by key market players, industry leaders, and regional stakeholders, reflecting strong momentum for the region's premier investment platform.
The launch signaled the beginning of an ongoing international campaign designed to position the Caribbean as a competitive destination for sustainable investment while strengthening collaboration between governments, investors, development finance institutions and the private sector.
Hosted by the Caribbean Export Development Agency, CIF 2026 will bring together international investors, policymakers, entrepreneurs, project developers, financial institutions and strategic partners to explore investment-ready opportunities across four transformational sectors:
Unlike traditional conferences of its kind, CIF is designed as an investment facilitation platform that moves beyond dialogue to action by connecting investors directly with prepared projects, regional decision-makers and strategic financing partners.
Dr. Lynette Holder, Chairperson of the Caribbean Export Development Agency, described the Forum as an important milestone in strengthening the Caribbean's investment ecosystem.
"This progress has been built through collaborative efforts of Caribbean Export and obviously our member states, and the many partners that have supported the forum over the years. And together, we have strengthened CIF's role in showcasing a growing pipeline of credible investment opportunities, connecting regional priorities with international interests, and creating space for deeper collaboration among governments, investment promotion agencies, development institutions, and the private sector. The progress of CIF has also been supported by the broader institutional development of Caribbean Export.”
Executive Director Dr. Damie Sinanan noted that the Forum will build upon the momentum generated by previous editions while introducing a more focused and action-oriented investment agenda.
“This forum will ... include project presentations, targeted business-to-business meetings, and practical clinics designed to help businesses and project proponents better understand what it takes to attract investment and move opportunities forward. CIF 2026 will continue to focus on four priority areas, sustainable agriculture, the green economy transition, digital transformation, as well as transportation and logistics.”
Hosting the Forum in Barbados reinforces the country's reputation as a leading regional hub for international business, diplomacy, innovation and investment while providing an ideal gateway through which global investors can engage the wider Caribbean.
The launch also featured remarks from representatives of the Government of Barbados, the European Union, the Caribbean Development Bank, Republic Financial Holdings Limited, Compete Caribbean, the Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator and Caribbean Export's strategic partners, highlighting the collaborative approach underpinning the Forum.
H.E. Fiona Ramsey, Ambassador of the European Union to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, highlighted the longstanding partnership between the European Union and the Caribbean Export Development Agency, congratulating the Agency on its vision and dedication in developing the Caribbean Investment Forum into what she described as a flagship initiative and a game changer for investment in the region.
Ambassador Ramsey also pointed to the Caribbean's strong investment proposition, citing the region's political stability, strategic geographic position, increasingly skilled workforce, growing digital economy and entrepreneurial potential. Against a backdrop of uncertainty in other global markets, she emphasised that the Caribbean offers investors an important combination of predictability and openness, creating a strong foundation for long-term investment.
She noted that CIF can play an important role in converting business conversations into tangible investment partnerships, while also underscoring the value of the European Union-Caribbean trade relationship in providing greater certainty for investors. Beyond trade in goods, she highlighted the framework's support for investment, innovation, services, intellectual property protection and regulatory cooperation - all of which help create the conditions for more secure, long-term investment commitments in the Caribbean.
Her message to the investment community was equally clear, encouraging investors, entrepreneurs and partners to seize the opportunity to engage with the region and with CIF 2026.
Emphasising this shared vision, Senator the Honourable Chris Sinckler underscored the broader economic ambition behind the initiative:
“It is about making a clear proposition to global capital that the region is not only open for business, but ready to surge returns on investments while intensifying transformative development for all of our countries.”
The Caribbean Investment Forum continues to evolve into one of the region's leading investment initiatives. Since 2022, it has showcased dozens of investment-ready projects, facilitated more than 135 business-to-business and investor meetings during its 2025 edition, and supported an investment pipeline representing 11 CARIFORUM countries with an estimated value exceeding US$172 million. These achievements underscore the Forum's role as a practical platform for connecting opportunity with capital and advancing regional investment partnerships.
The official launch marks the beginning of a comprehensive international communications and investor engagement campaign leading up to CIF 2026, with outreach targeting Europe, North America, Canada, the Caribbean and global development finance institutions.
