The Caribbean Energy Transition for MSMEs initiative is a multi-year project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank. It is designed to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in adopting energy-efficient practices and integrating cleaner production methods. By enhancing sustainability, this initiative aims to improve business competitiveness while reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the region.
At the core of the project is an interactive online energy audit tool that will allow businesses to assess their energy consumption, identify areas for improvement, and implement practical solutions for more efficient operations. Alongside this, MSMEs will gain access to targeted training on energy management, sustainability, and voluntary sustainability standards (VSS)—equipping them with the knowledge and resources to transition to greener business practices.
Why This Matters
MSMEs make up over 70 percent of businesses in the Caribbean, yet many face challenges in adopting sustainable energy practices due to limited access to information, tools, and financing. This initiative will help businesses reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance the region’s climate resilience by providing practical solutions, expert guidance, and a supportive ecosystem.
